Spicy Pumpkin Chai Smoothie

Yay! Autumn is here- which opens up all new seasonal flavour combinations! Start your morning with this uplifting nutritious smoothie.

Traditional chai flavours ginger, cardamon, nutmeg, star anise and cinnamon are combined with the low-calorie, belly filling super star- pumpkin and energy champions- Medjool dates. This smoothie will tickle your tastebuds and set you up right for a busy morning.

What you need:

  • ½ cup pumpkin puree (see notes)

  • 1 cup milk (any milk works for this – we used oat milk)

  • ½ cup strongly brewed chai tea, chilled

  • ½ cup coconut cream

  • 4 medjool dates

  • 1 cup ice

  • Honey to sweeten if needed

  • Optional: 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

Method:

  1. Make your chai tea ahead of time – make sure it is a strong brew so that the flavours come through. You can use tea bags or leaves to do this. Chill.

  2. Blend all of the ingredients together in a high-speed blender until smooth.

  3. Sweeten as desired and add in a scoop of protein powder to enjoy this smoothie as breakfast!

Notes: Make your pumpkin puree ahead of time by boiling 3 cups of any type of pumpkin, roughly cubed (we used Japanese), until soft. Mash with a fork until smooth. You can store this in ice cube trays to use in your smoothies anytime.
