Thai Beef and Pear Salad



This salad is an absolute cracker! Loaded with flavour, light but substantial, and ohhhh so yummy! With pears in season- and on special- don't miss out! The slightly tangy umami of the dressing is PEAR-fectly balanced out by the crunch of the peanuts, the richness of the steak and the bright sweet flavour of the pears.


Kids and adults alike will clean their plates with this one!


Serves 4:


What you need:

  • 500-750g steak of choice or stir fry strips. (Porterhouse cut works well)

  • 2 small Bartlett pears

  • 4 spring onions scallions

  • 1-2 red chillies

  • 8 Tbsp lime juice

  • 2 tbsp. fish sauce

  • 1 tsp soy sauce

  • 5 tsp. sugar/sweetener of choice

  • Mixed greens to serve your crowd

  • 2 cucumbers

  • 1/4-1/2 red onion thinly sliced

  • 1 c. fresh coriander stems and leaves in bite sized pieces.

  • Chopped peanuts to garnish

  • Salt and pepper



What to do:

  1. Trim excess fat off steak. Season steak to taste with salt and black pepper.

  2. Thinly slice Bartlett pear, and red onion. Thinly slice spring onions and cucumber on a diagonal. Thinly slice chilli. Set everything aside.

  3. Heat pan with a little oil over medium-high heat. Add steak and cook to desired doneness, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Transfer steak to a cutting board and let rest. if using stir fry strips- simply stir fry to desired doneness and set aside to cool slightly.

  4. Place lime juice, fish sauce, soy sauce and sugar to large bowl. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Adjust seasoning to taste.

  5. Add the pear slices, onions cucumbers, spring onions and chilli to the bowl and mix well. add greens and coriander to bowl and mix lightly. Place salad onto serving dishes. Serve with thinly sliced steak and peanuts.
