Cinnamon Lemon Tea

Recipe 13 – Cinnamon Lemon Tea

Tea is a staple in my kitchen.  I’m not a coffee or alcohol drinker at all (please don’t judge- ha ha!). Instead, I indulge in my various teas for both hot and cool beverages.

I could go on and on about tea, and sometimes I find myself wondering what I love most about it.  The smell?  The prettiness of the blends?  The taste? The warmth?  Just the act of collecting (and hoarding)?

For me:

Tea is a ritual.  It’s the first thing that I choose to put into my body every single morning – always hot.  It helps me start the day with an opportunity to practice presence and meditation. I take my time.  You can’t drink hot tea quickly.  It is comfort and well-being in a cup.

Tea is connection.  Iker and I lead such busy lives, and on most days, we spend our time tag-teaming between work and taking care of the kids.  On most days though, we manage to connect for a quick fifteen minutes over a cup of tea, mid-afternoon, just to debrief our morning.

Tea is love.  Sharing a pot of tea with friends or making a fresh cup for a loved one is a tangible effort in showing care and love for those in your life.

Today I share with you a very quick DIY tea recipe that you can make with any black tea leaves on hand- to help share love, connection and wellbeing with you all!  If you don’t have any loose leaves, not to fear – pop in a couple of black tea bags instead. Not into caffeine or looking for an afternoon pick me up? Try the recipe below without the black tea as well!

This recipe is especially timely with it’s lemon, honey and spices to help boost our immunity as lockdown restrictions are lifting.

What you need:

2 cups of water

1 lemon, juiced

1 cinnamon stick

2 teaspoons of Assam tea leaves (or, you can use any black tea leaves)

Lemon slices

Honey to taste

Method:

Heat water on high with cinnamon and bring to a boil.

Add the tea leaves and lemon juice.

Switch off heat and let it steep.

Stir in honey to taste.

Strain the tea and pour into your favourite tea cup.  Add a slice of lemon to your cup if you wish.

Warm happy healthy wishes for us all!
